On a mission to Mars, Captain Black of Spectrum, a space exploration and defense force, destroys a base belonging to the Mysterions, immediately leading to a declaration of hostilities. The Mysterions kill two Spectrum operatives, Captain Brown and Captain Scarlet, but “Mysterionize” them, which brings them back to life under Mysteron control. While Brown is turned into a living bomb, Scarlet is sent to threaten the world President. When he falls from an observation deck after being shot by Captain Blue, Scarlet regains his memory and his senses, plus realizes that the Mysterons’ treatment has left him virtually indestructible.
